1968 was a good year for the vineyards. However, the abundant rainfall just before the harvest marked the year; thus, many Houses declared Colheitas, including Niepoort. It is perhaps here that the secret of the experience of small old oak casks takes effect and the Colheita gains concentration over many years of slow oxidative ageing in the cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
